How to exfoliate skin

How to exfoliate skin.

Ahh..the after effects of using an exfoliator; the enticing fruity smell your skin is left with alongside the grainy  texture , the feeling of freshly cleansed smooth skin once you’ve patted dry ….

There are many exfoliators on the market and it is very easy to get lost amid the many colours and the tantalising promises of achieving   perfect-looking skin after using them.

There are two main types of exfoliants; physical exfoliants ( like face scrubs and clay masks) and chemical exfoliants ( like acid serums and peels). Some products incorporate both.

If you have acne-prone skin or are very sensitive, a chemical exfoliant would be more beneficial as it eliminates the risks of redness from possible over-scrubbing. The right chemical exfoliant will help you achieve glowing skin without abrasions.

But how often, what ingredients should you look out for and how  exactly should you exfoliate your skin ?

Let’s start from the top .

 The benefits of exfoliating

  • It cleanses and unclogs pores
  • Removes dead skin and promotes new skin cell turnover
  • Evens skin tone
  • Improves circulation
  • Helps to allow products or ingredients to penetrate deeper
  • Improves skin texture
  • Reduces dullness of skin and leaves it looking brighter

How often should I exfoliate my skin?

Our Skinora doctors recommend exfoliating your skin at least 2 to 3 times a week ; any more than that and you run the risk of irritating your skin or causing dryness. If you have red or sensitive skin, you should aim to exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week.
